Can We Get a Fatwa from Artificial Intelligence?

Today, artificial intelligence (AI) is used in many areas of life. People use it to learn languages, solve math problems, and even ask religious questions. However, an important question appears: Can we get a fatwa from artificial intelligence?

A fatwa is a religious ruling given by an authorized Islamic scholar. A scholar studies the Qur’an, the Sunnah, and Islamic law for many years before giving religious advice. A fatwa is not just general information; it is a serious decision based on knowledge, experience, and understanding of a person’s specific situation. Artificial intelligence can provide general information about religion and explain different opinions from scholars. However, it cannot fully understand a person’s intention, personal condition, or special condition. For this reason, AI cannot replace a real scholar.

It is also important to talk about responsibility. If someone decides to take a fatwa from artificial intelligence and acts according to it, the responsibility belongs to that person. The person who chooses to follow the answer is responsible for their own decision. The responsibility does not belong to the people who created the artificial intelligence system. AI is only a tool that provides information, and it should not be seen as a religious authority.

In conclusion, artificial intelligence can help people learn about religion, but it cannot officially give a fatwa. For serious religious matters, it is always better to ask an authorized and trusted scholar.
