History of Real Madrid

Real Madrid… According to the statics the biggest club in the world… With 14 Champions League cups, 35 La Liga cups, 5 FIFA Club World Cups and more  Real Madrid seems a successful club. So how did they become such a successful club?

The origins of Real Madrid goes back to the Sky Football Club, founded in 1897 by Institución Libre de Enseñanza academics, students and Oxbridge graduates. İn 1900 This club was divided into 2 clubs: Foot-Ball de Madrid and Club Español de Madrid. İn 1902 Club Español de Madrid was divided into 2 clubs and Madrid football club  established.

Three years after establismen, they beat Athletic Bilbao in Spain Cup final and they won their first championship. In 1912 club moved to Campo de O’Donnell. In 1920 Granted the title “Real” and permission to bear the royal crown in his coat of arms by XIII Alfonso.

In 1929 First Spanish footbal league was established and   In last match Real Madrid lost to Athletic Bilbao and became  second after Barcelona. Real Madrid won their first leauge championship in 1931-1932 season. The following year, Real Madrid became the league champion again and won the King’s Cup in the same year, thus achieved a double championship.

Santiago Bernabéu Yeste became Real Madrid’s president in 1945 he moved the club to Santiago Bernabéu stadium . Since 1953, it has started to carry out transfers that will provide worldwide prestige. Suggestion of Gabriel Hanot, a football player and editor of the French sports newspaper L’Équipe, in 1955 with iniatives of Bernabéu, Gustáv Sebes and Bedringan The football tournament, which will be called the UEFA Champions League,  started to be organized. In first final of this tournament, Real Madrid beat Reims 4-3 and won the first Champions League title. After that, Real Madrid won the cup five more times in a row. For this achievement, UEFA gave  the original cup to Real Madrid.

Real Madrid beat the Partizan with its all-Spanish squad in 1699.In addition, in the 1970-71 season, which was the first season of the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup, it finished second in the cup, losing 2-1 to Chelsea in the final. In 2 June 1978 while World cup being arranged Santiago Bernabéu Yeste died and FIFA 3 days of mourning declared. The year after his death, the club started organizing the Santiago Bernabéu Cup in honor of the Bernabéu. From Turkey Galatasaray was invited 2 times.

 In the early 1980s, Real Madrid’s influence on La Liga was not felt as much as before.  The club did not win the championship between 1980 and 1985, but only finished second in the league three times.[23]  However, the club completely dominated the leagues in the second half of the 1980s.  During this period, two UEFA Cups, five La Liga championships, one King’s Cup and one Spanish Super Cup championship were won. Club president Lorenzo Sanz, appointed Fabio Capello as a technical director in 1996.In the club where he worked for only one season, Capello won the league championship with the star players of his time such as Roberto Carlos, Predrag Mijatović, Davor Šuker, Clarence Seedorf, Raúl González, Fernando Hierro, Iván Zamorano and Fernando Redondo.  Under the technical directorata of Jupp Heynckes with addition of Fernando Moritenes, they won the Champions Leauge after 32 years in 1998.

In July 1998 Florentino Perez was chosen to club presidency.  One of his promises was that Luis bought Figo from his arch-rival Barcelona. In following years he brought some star players as David Beckham, Ronaldo Nazario, Zinedine Zidane and made  the Los Galácticos but the squad was not succeed they just won a champions league .In following years they couldn’t win anything.

On 2 July 2006, Fabio Capello was reinstated as coach, with Ramón Calderón being elected president. Although he made the club champion after 4 years, he was fired due to his playing style

In 1 June 2009 Perez again became president of club again. In his second presidental He initiated the second Los Galactios with buying Kaka from Milan and buying Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United. After that they won UEFA champions leagu5 times in 2018 Ronaldo transferred to Juventus and thus los Galactios dissolved. Nowadays Club is suffering from injuries . Their most important players got injured such as Vini jr.
