The National Library: this library, containing two million books, was built in 1992, after being destroyed by the Chetniks who besieged Sarajevo. Located in the center of Bascarsija, the heart of Sarajevo, the Sebilj Fountain was commissioned by Mehmet Pasha Kukavica in 1753. Damaged by a fire in 1852, the fountain was rebuilt in 1891. The Latin Bridge: the bridge has historical significance as it was the scene of the assassination of Austrian Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife in 1914, which sparked World War I. The Mostar Bridge, one of the two bridges over the Neretva River, was built in the 16th century by Mimar Hayreddin, a student of Koca Sinan.
