Sudan’s conflict has been going strong for nine long months now, leaving thousands dead and millions forced to flee their homes. It all started back in April 2023, when two groups started fighting for control of the country.
One group, the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N), wants to take over from the current leaders. They think the government in charge right now isn’t fair, as it came to power after a military coup in 2021. The other group, the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), are the ones in charge now, and they’re not giving up their power easily.
The fighting started in the capital city, Khartoum, but it quickly spread to other parts of the country. Both sides are using guns and bombs, and things are getting worse every day. The SPLM-N has even made some gains in some areas, pushing the SAF back in places.
This war is causing a huge mess. Millions of people have had to leave their homes because of the fighting, and many don’t have enough food or water. The country’s economy is also in shambles, with money having little value and prices of things like food skyrocketing.
The whole world is worried about what’s happening in Sudan and is trying to get the two sides to stop fighting. So far, though, no one has been able to make them agree to a truce.
It doesn’t look like this war will end anytime soon, and things could get even worse if it keeps going. The longer it lasts, the more damage it will do to Sudan and its people.
