WORLD WAR 1

HOW DID WORLD WAR 1 START?

In 28 June 1914 the Austrian Archduke Franz Ferdinand was killed by Serbian Gavrilo Princip in Sarajevo. After 1 month Austria-Hungary declared war to Serbia. Then Russia Empire declared war to Austria- Hungary after that German empire declared war to the Russian Empire and France, all these happened in just one week.

The Entente Powers were Serbia

Russian Empire France

Great Britain Italy

Greece United States

The Central Powers of the German Empire were Austria-Hungary

The Ottoman Empire and Bulgaria.

At the begining of war Austrian-Hungary Empire conquered Serbia, then German Empire declared war to Belgium but Belgium was protected by Great Britain and Great Britain attended the war. The German Empire conquered Belgium in 18 days and attacked France over Belgium.

WHY DID GERMANY ATTACKED FRANCE OVER BELGIUM

France had a defence line (maginot line) in France and German border and German decided to pass this line from Belgium but it cost dearly for Germans, Great Britain joined the war and helped France.

HOW OTTOMANS JOIN THE WAR

Two German battle ships,Goeben and Breslau, came to Istanbul and Ottomans announced that they bought the battlships but they didn’t buy the battle ships. After that The battle ships bombed the Russian Empire and Russian Empire declared ear to Ottoman Empire. The Ottomans weren’t ready for the war.

WHY DID GERMANY WANTED TO INCLUDE OTTOMANS TO WAR?

The German Empire thought that they could use khalifah’s power and they need more front but some Arabic people didn’t join Ottomans and revolt to Ottoman Empire also Great Britain helped them.

WESTREN FRONT

Germany attacked France and Trench Warfare began for 3 years.(1915 to 1918) The life was bad in Trenchs. Disease, mouses, no bed and the enemy could attack any moment. Millions of people died in the western front and Great Britain used new war technology, Tanks. It was a new technology for the world. In 1917 anybody couldn’t move anywhere and the United States joined the war, Entente Powers had new power and German Empire was defeated to Entente Powers.

THE MOST IMPORTANT WAR IN 1915, ÇANAKKALE

In 1915 Russia needed food and Great Britain decided to attack Ottoman Empire’s capital city İstanbul and they needed to pass Çanakkale. Great Britain and France attacked Çanakkale but they were defeated in 18 March in 1915. After the war Ottomans didn’t defeat and Russia defeated in 1917.

CONSEQUENCES OF WORLD WAR 1

After the war Russian Empire has been collapsed and Soviet Russia has been established, also Ottoman Empire has been collapsed and Republic of Turkey has been established. Austrian- Hungary Empire has been collapsed. Finally 20-25 million people died in WW1 and the world had changed forever.
